U.S. DOE Announces Communities LEAP Initiative

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced a $16 million initiative to help local communities take control of their clean energy future.

The Communities LEAP (Local Energy Action Program) pilot will be available to assist up to 36 low-income and energy-burdened communities. One main focal point is clean transportation investments. The DOE plans to work with community stakeholders to assess local transportation systems, identify transportation needs, and determine future goals.

Given the nationwide push for clean mobility options, we expect to see many places prioritizing expanded access to electric vehicle charging stations.

NYC's Ambitous Plan for Massive EV Charging Network

In the continued fight against climate change, the New York City Department of Transportation aims to create one of the largest electric vehicle (EV) charging networks in the country.

The city’s new plan is titled, “Electrifying New York: An Electric Vehicle Vision Plan for New York City.” One of the goals is to achieve full carbon neutrality by 2050, which will require at least 400,000 vehicle owners to switch to EVs by 2030.

NYC must drastically expand its EV charging infrastructure over the next decade to support this effort. Tens of thousands of new charging stations will be installed citywide, including 40,000 Level 2 chargers and 6,000 direct current (DC) fast chargers.

Pursuing LEED Certification? Add EV Charging to Your Design Plans!

Did you know that adding EV charging stations to your building project can earn LEED certification points from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)?

Having a LEED-certified project is not only good for the environment—it can also help to save on ongoing facility operating costs. Additionally, some companies and consumers view it as a minimum requirement for them to choose to be located in that building or do future business with a company.

Check out this blog post by ChargePoint to see why LEED certification is an important goal for many buildings: https://bit.ly/2XCERnB
