Massachusetts DPU Approves $395M for EV Make-Ready Programs

The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) just approved $395 million in new funding to accelerate EV charging station deployment across the Commonwealth!

This long-awaited infrastructure investment will support “make-ready” EV programs delivered by three energy companies:

  • Eversource Energy’s Phase II EV Program: $188 million over 4 years 

  • National Grid’s Phase III EV Program: $206 million over 4 years

  • Unitil EV Program: $998,000 over 5 years 

Thanks to this fresh infusion of state funding, charging stations (including DCFC equipment) can be purchased and/or installed at little-to-no cost to the site hosts. Eligible projects include public, workplace, fleet, municipal utility district (MUD), residential and Environmental Justice Community (EJC).

It's official! Voltrek will soon be installing 9 electric vehicle (EV) chargers for the town of Rockport, Massachusetts. These new ChargePoint stations will be strategically located at four locations: Town Hall, the Town Hall Annex, Back Beach and the Transfer Station parking lots.

Limited Funding Available for Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Projects in Massachusetts

Attention employers and fleet operators in Massachusetts! State funding for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure was expanded in 2021. Enhancements to the Massachusetts Electric Vehicle Incentive Program (MassEVIP) include the following:

  • Fleet operators can apply for funding to build out Level 1 and Level 2 charging infrastructure—both private and publicly accessible.

  • Multi units only need 5 units to qualify now (it was 10 in the past).

  • Education customers can also apply for funding.

  • The generic non-workplace “public” program is back online. Entities that are willing to have chargers publicly accessible for at least 12 hours per day can apply for funding.
