"Make New York EV Ready" Bill Advances in NY State Senate

Voltrek applauds the New York State Senate for advancing legislation that promotes the development of new electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

The "Make New York EV Ready" bill (S23A) sponsored by Senator Anna Kaplan (pictured) passed this week as part of a legislative package designed to combat climate change and promote environmental conservation. Essentially, it requires that certain state-funded parking facilities be constructed to support EV charging stations, and would help to ease the state's transition to EVs.

"Ensuring that new parking structures are pre-wired for electric vehicle charging is a no-brainer, and it’s what needs to be done to ensure that our infrastructure will be ready to handle the growing number of EVs on the road today and tomorrow," Senator Kaplan states.

Matthew Aracich, president of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Nassau and Suffolk Counties, adds, “S23A represents a major step forward in the construction and personal transportation industries. Assigning dedicated EV charging spaces and infrastructure during the construction of our parking garages is not only common sense, but also represents a real step in achieving our plan for a green future for the Empire State.”

S23A still has to pass the New York State Assembly before being delivered to the governor's desk for final approval. Learn more about this key piece of legislation here: https://bit.ly/3xP20Td

Voltrek Team Installs Ultra-Fast ABB Terra HP Chargers in Jefferson County, New York

The word is out! New York just unveiled its FIRST fast-charging station for electric vehicles in Jefferson County.

The new hub at Watertown's Hilton Garden Inn features Terra HP chargers from ABB. This dynamic-charging solution can be used by any EV and offers lightning-quick speeds—from 175kW up to 350kW, which is more powerful than Tesla’s superchargers! Voltrek lent its design and installation expertise on this milestone project to prime contractor EV Connect.

The Watertown installation belongs to the statewide EVolve NY charging network, part of a New York Power Authority (NYPA) initiative designed to encourage the widespread adoption of EVs. For your reading delight, here's a news release with further details: http://ow.ly/NFrj50CHc7B

A Reflection of Times Present and Past

We snapped the top picture out in the field where we are installing high-powered ABB electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Isn’t it reminiscent of the iconic image below it, taken in 1932? That well-known photo of ironworkers atop a New York skyscraper was taken after the passage of the Emergency Relief and Construction Act, which was designed to put millions back to work during the Great Depression.

To us, both photos look like rows of birds perched on a wire—but with more colorful plumage and PPE in 2020. 😉

When future generations reflect on our nation’s EV charging infrastructure boom, what images will best represent our era? Images like this? What do you think?
